Policy vs. Strategy

2008 December 16

How many times does your corporate policy interfere with setting your email strategy?

Think about this:

1.  Have you ever been told as an email marketer to send that one extra mailing even though you know that short term gain will mean long term pain for revenue or engagement?

2. The customer is king…right?  How many things do you do as an email marketer that truly benefit the customer, that puts the customer first and ignores the corporate objectives of squeezing more revenue out of them.

3.  Does your company publicly post a customer mantra to its employees, but does the opposite when it comes to email marketing.

There are plenty of corporate policies that completely oppose email best practices.

Bottom line:  Don’t let policy interfere with strategy,  Say no to the highest level if you truly care about the customer and email best practices.
