Email Acquisition Part 2: eAppends

2009 January 28

A eAppend basically takes your customers name and address and bumps it up against another companies data pool and discovers the most current deliverable email address.

eAppends are a common way for companies to increase their list size but in my opinion a dangerous one.  There have been a lot of articles written about the dangers of eAppends, but the most recent one I found was in a ClickZ article by Derek Harding.

I could provide 3-4 more paragraphs on my opinion about this subject, but the article says it all.  Performing an eAppend so you can increase the size of you database is like an scary old guy buying a Porsche to show off for the ladies.

Well said Derek…you stole my thunder and my potential rant.

Tomorrow: Organic list growth and some ideas.
