Bath and Body Works and weird creative.
Check out the email that I received 2 days ago from Bath and Body Works. It a mixture of HTML and Text all rolled up into what I would call a really messy and obtuse email. I am not really sure why they would want to send their users this particular creative give the fact that is has visual appeal to anyone. Any attempt at their messaging was lost to me because it was so weird looking. After I thought about it for awhile, I figured this must have been one of those cobbled together “we are short on revenue this week” emails. The other theory I have was that they forgot it was Valentines week and that they had to push something out the door.
I have long said that sending email to send email is really not the best of ideas. This is especially true since most of the creative that I have seen like the email below from Bath and Body Works is pretty darn good. Why would they want to muck it up with sending something like the above for the sake of revenue or just to get an email out the door. C’mon Bath and Body Works….I know you are better than this, heck you have proved it to me in the past with the creative below.

Oh wow. I guess they did not really test it out first. Too bad.
Not only that, but check out that legal copy! Is it really necessary to include all of that in the email itself? Such a turn-off. Leave that for the landing page.
