The 2nd longest email in history….

2009 March 4

Is it any surprise that the 2nd longest email in history came from Costco? I don’t think that I would ever say this when talking about email, but I find it disturbing that I can order Veal Osso Buco, a sanitizing light wand and a home defibrillator all from one email. This email and most of email from Costco scream the need for relevancy in the email space. The funny part in all of this is that I am no longer a member of Costco and have not ordered anything from them in 2 years.

Oh yes..and that is a coding gaffe at the top of the email near the washer and dryer.

At least this one’s prettier than the last one. BTW – I really need to get one of those sanitizing light wands.

    Andrew,

I got this email also and didn’t see the code break (I use Mac Mail), but I totally agree with you that no email should be this long and cover this much content. I actually wrote a blog post about this a couple months ago (http://blog.bronto.com/2008/12/19/my-point-and-i-do-have-one/). Costco and CSN are two of the worst offenders of the “cram as much stuff as possible into one email because we believe it increases conversions” principle. :)

Not only is it to long, there is no relevance in it. Too many mixed products.
But what I realy would like to see is how it renders with images suppressed. That must be hilarious. Think about it

that email is crazy long. it just kept going on and on! it loses the reader’s interest above the first couple of pics. I wonder what the click through rate on that was?

I believe that could be in the running for the open the email and hit the delete button immediately record
