My list is bigger than yours….
When are folks going to learn that its not the size of the list that matters, its what you do with it.
Lately, I have been talking with colleagues and folks who tout that their is list XX,XXX,XXX million and that they do this and that with their BIG list…..whooptie frickin do!!! How much of their big list is actively engaged? How much are you wasting (not only in terms of money but in reputation) sending to this list? Here are some harsh realities folks…..take heed CMO’s, or VP’s , CEO’s or other marketing folks before you tout how big your list is.
1. Your list aint squat if its not engaged.
2. The bigger the list, the harder it is to send too.
3. What would you rather have: a big list where 20% engage, or a list 1/10 the size where an equal amount of people are engaged?
4. With a big list, you will spend more time trying to engage the un-engaged rather than nuture the ones that you should be the most attention too.
5. If you acquired your list via a sneaky or snarky way..is it really a big list or did you get it by augmentation and everyone knows its fake?
Bottom line folks….lets stop hearing about how big or large your member list is. Lets focus on how we can engage the subscriber using built up best practices within your organization. Nurture your best folks and quit worrying about acquiring.
