Happy Birthday Mrs. Kordek! I think of all the moms who attend their kids' sporting events and know little about the sport - but they're there, participating, supporting and encouraging their child's success. Nice to see your mom hasn't lost that perspective and still participates in your success.

Totally hear ya man. I love to educate and will continue to do so, I guess my post came from the perspective that I don't want to be the guy to "always" go to...or seem snobbish about it.

I love what I do and want to share it with the world, but I want to make sure I don't come off the wrong way to people.

Much love from the 847.

Dude. I agree with so much of this post. You know I do. We've talked about this (and other language/titles) before. All over it. However, to play the other side for a minute, I think that while it's important to always be learning, it is also critical to be teaching. We all struggle with that balance.

You - and other "influencers" - have a ton of valuable knowledge to share. I agree that calling ourselves gurus or experts is overkill (and unnecessary); however, others in the industry look to us for advice. We need to be there to provide it.

This comment is not coming out at all how I had hoped/expected, but maybe it makes a bit of sense. Looking forward to continuing the conversation...

Top Nav? I definitely don't think they incorporated their own alt text into it. As an SEO Specialist, I am always trying to look for places to add keywords, whether it be in text, links or images. While it probably doesn't make too much of a difference, marketers should really take 2 seconds to create alt text for their images.

I always make sure that an HTML email is readable/usable with images off. This means adding meaningful alt text, not just a descriptor of the image but something that could be considered a 'lite' version of the email with no images. I ensure that all TDs/DIVs that contain only images are styled so that if images are off and only alt text is visible the fonts and colors are correct. I think of it as creating a rich text version underneath the image enabled HTML. This creates the best user experience for most recipients who have images off by default.

Taking into consideration the "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" content presentation, I'm surprised any potential customer would take it upon themsleves to hunt down an email subscription sign-up page.

Perhaps B&N feels the steps to create an account are only moderately longer than it would take to subscribe to an email. Would be interesting to compare metrics and conversions.
