Email Marketing is not just about making money

I just don’t get it….I really don’t. I was speaking and trading emails with a colleague of mine today who can speak of nothing but generating revenue off of emails. This person is not in email marketing and claims to have a working knowledge of what email should be like and what it should produce. Its a short sided view for a short term gain while thinking nothing of the impact that sending email, the way it looks and feels to the customer affects long term relationships.

When will the marketing and specifically the internet marketing world stop thinking that email marketing affects only the online channel and impacts revenue.

Marketing has a long way to go and we as professional email marketers have a mountain to climb in the way of education on this. I welcome any suggestions.
